WatchTime remembers our discovery of the original James Bond Rolex: One year later

.
It seems like we've always known that the original, literary James Bond Rolex was a 1016 Explorer produced in the latter part of 1960.

And that it was the personal choice of 007 creator Ian Fleming as well.

But it's only been a year since WatchTime ran our feature article that definitively put this persistent mystery to rest with "Discovered: James Bond's Rolex," February 2009.

Editor-in-Chief Joe Thompson notes this in his February 2010 Editor's Letter. Titled, "Another Mystery Solved," he begins, "Regular readers know that we've been having some fun lately focusing on (and sometimes solving!) some long-standing watch mysteries....

"Ian Fleming expert Dell Deaton (February 2009) identified the specific Rolex watch that was the inspiration for the Rolex that James Bond wears in the Fleming novels."

Like I said: That was a year ago, and we're now well-into 2010. And with less than six months to go before the "Bond Watches, James Bond Watches" exhibit opens at the National Watch & Clock Museum, I can promise you as its guest curator that we'll solve at least two more mysteries before that grand collection goes on display.

It's gonna be another exciting year for James Bond Watches!
